Surgery Update

Yolanda came out of surgery around 8:30 this evening.  I was finally able to see her around 10:45.  Dr Kim gave me a good report and said that he got a lot of the tumor cells out of her body.  He placed rods from the bottom of her neck down to T7 vertebrae on both sides of her spine.  She is resting in PACU recovery now and will remain their through the night.  They plan to move her to ICU sometime tomorrow morning.  She will be in the ICU for approximately 24 hours.  It appears she won't be moved back to a room until sometime late on Friday.  It looks like she will be in the hospital through the weekend, at a minimum.

Thank you again for your prayers, thoughts and words of encouragement.  God bless you all, good night.

  1. Dearest Yolanda,

I spoke with Kim this week and she told me of your arduous, yet faithful journey. As I sat quietly and read your blog yesterday, it dawned on me that I have not seen or spoken to you since we were 18 years old -- a time when we were filled with the infinite hope of our futures. Time and distance notwithstanding, your indomitable love and trust in our Lord binds us as believers and receivers of His plan for us.

It is shamefully true that trials and tribulations serve to connect and reconnect us to those we have been disconnected from. I do believe, however, that in the midst of challenging ordeals Expressions such as the ones you and Michael are proffering -- sharing your journey -- reminds us of the power and necessity of sharing our personal journeys and experiences with others.

I am deeply touched by the faith and love that penetrates through the circumstances you have been undertaking over the span of what might seem like a very short time to most. This morning, I am reflecting on how small the perceivable big things truly were (and are) that I encountered during the same time you have been facing each day since June with courage and optimism we understand as abiding faith.

Know in your thoughts that I am praying for and with you. Also, feel in your heart the hope that comes during our youth, the understanding that comes in our maturity, and the Divine love that endures and carries us through it all.

I am humbly thankful for His grace each day. On this day, I am thankful for the times and laughter we shared in our youth, and the reconnection -- no matter the circumstances -- in our maturity. But most of all, I am thankful for the love He taught/teaches us that (re)assures me that you are and forever shall be magnificently Yolanda!

    Warmly, Monique (Snowden)

Even though your journey, while I know, has been difficult, your faith is strengthening you day by day. That's evident by your testimony. Your blog has been encouraging to me and I'm sure others. I've been blessed by your testimony and I know God will bring you through this with an even more powerful one. We are praying for complete healing.

  4. Our God is an awesome God! Michael, we are ferverently praying (bowed head, clasped hands, bended knees, hopeful spirit, confidence in The Savior and thankful for His goodness & ever presence! Your blog sharing, alone, is soul healing power for many. We thank God for witnesses like you and Yolanda. Your faith and strength are remarkable and are teaching examples for us all. We pray that a miracle is constantly working in and through our precious Yolanda. It is truly a blessing that God has surrounded her with apparent Christian medical personnel who have faith and are communicating with one another to accomplish healing. We pray that our will is God's will. Thou will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We are only one phone call away. However, God is already right there. One Sunday, our pastor, Rev. Marcus Cosby, preached that when we pray, we don't have to come up with eloquent words or try to cover everything in one prayer, we just simply can pray this short prayer, ... "Dear God, HELP! Amen." That's my prayer right now.
